Entrant only. 3-day course – must be carried out before undertaking Level 3 6160 07 & 6160 08

This course is about working in confined spaces that have non-standard entries which, in consequence, make rescue difficult. It is likely that a hazard will be present at some time during the entry. Entry may involve complex entry procedures and there will be work-specific controls and rescue arrangements. It will entail the use of a self-contained open-circuit breathing apparatus, specialist detection equipment, and resuscitation equipment.

Course Content - Theory

• Legislation and dangers associated with confined spaces/
  hazardous spaces

• Recognition of confined spaces NC1, NC2 and NC3

• Safe systems of work, work permits and risk assessments

• Emergency procedures

• Understand SSOW

• Control safe entry and exit to the confined space including pre-entry brief to the entry team

• Implement emergency arrangements effectively

• Understand the need for incident reporting
   

Course Content - Practical

• Safe use of confined space equipment including SCBA

• Pre-entry safety checks

• Practical assessment

• Emergency procedures

• Equipment care and maintenance regimes

N.B All candidates must be clean shaven in order to achieve a face seal when using the full BA.
