Course Overview
If you use ladders and stepladders, this course is for you!
You’ll learn when it’s right to use a ladder (and when it’s not), and how to use, store and handle them safely.
Our Ladder and Step Ladder Users Course delivers a minimum of 4 hours of instruction and is designed to instruct up to a maximum of 8 delegates, providing training for users, supervisors and managers wanting to equip themselves with the knowledge, skills and confidence necessary to use ladders and step ladders legally and safely.
Under the regulations every person in the chain leading up to, and including, the final user, has a duty of care to both themselves and others to know and understand the practical implications of working safety at height. Demonstration of competence is a key requirement of the new regulations and successful completion of the Ladder and Step Ladder Training Course provides proof of such competence.

• Legislation and Regulations affecting Work at Height
• Requirements for the use of Ladders and Step Ladders under Schedule 6 of the Work at Height Regulations
• Product standards and classifications for Ladders and Step Ladders in the workplace
• Hazards affecting the use of Ladders and Step Ladders
• The need to planning using the S.T.E.P format (Site/Task/Equipment/Personnel)
• Operator’s Pre-Use Ladder Inspection
• Correct Storage and Transport of Ladders
GS-SDLL - Short Duration Ladder Work – Utilizing a Leaning ladder restraint system
The system enables ladder users to work safer and easier to maintain three points of contact while ascending and descending leaning ladders and accessing roof ladders.
This course is designed to provide delegates with the knowledge and skills required when using portable ladders for short duration access. Delegates will be taught the safe use of fall protection equipment with leaning ladders while operating at the head of the ladder and ascending/descending.
CONTENTS
Successful delegates will gain an understanding of current relevant legislation and best practice on ladders and be able to carry out a pre-use inspect and most importantly use them safely, in line with current approved methods and manufacturer’s instructions.
The course includes:
• An appreciation of UK legislation including the Work at Height Regulations.
• Understanding the difference between fall arrest/work restraint and the importance of correct anchorage.
• Understanding the method for fitting, usage & user inspection of equipment specified for this course.
• Outline of the access procedures for portable leaning ladder usage.
• Completion of practical exercises, fitting equipment and securing the ladder.
• Conducting a practical ladder exercise at a height of approximately 6 metres (Guidance height only)
• Self Rescue Awareness
• Completion of a written assessment to confirm understanding of course content.
